A215 begins

Posted: September 9, 2010 in Open University

Received my books for my first level 2 course with the Open University. It’s A215 creative writing which will hopefully get me 60 points closer to my English Literature Degree. 2 books & 4 CDs is all I received for this module, in stark contrast to the plethora of goodies I was sent for the AA100 course (for which I was awarded a distinction, in case I hadn’t mentioned it before). I had a quick flick through the materials & am very impressed so far. Looks like I’ll have to spend much more time on this than I did on AA100 though. Good luck to me!

After a looong wait for the results of my AA100 course with the Open University I received them just the other day. Result? A big fat distinction! Well chuffed, but hope it will continue into level 2!

I really should be blogging in more detail about my projects. But here is a pic of Mk. 6 of the cockpit. I’ve added a flightstick into the mix which enhances the ‘HAWX’ experience immensely. Which is handy as HAWX 2 is out pretty soon. Il post the issues I’m having later. Ok, I probably won’t, but I have good intentions……..

I’ve made them to fold away so as not to get in the way of the wheel

And here is a friend enjoying my (lack of) engineering skills.

A rather successful evening of cockpit testing last night. Got some good footage of driver facial contortions which I will endeavour to post here.
Until then, here’s some snaps of the setup.

Below is a pic of my hastily constructed pedal box holder-type-thingy.

And the mess round the back

Am well impressed by the overall sturdiness of the thing, took quite a bit of abuse with no damage. Am also impressed by the wheel itself – which is the ‘GT Driving Force Pro’ – it gives good feedback & works very well with my current game of choice ‘NFS Shift’.
Stay tooned for those driver vids!

Lack of anything cab related

Ok, so kinda got carried away in the ‘testing’ phase & sort of carried on using the cab without tidying – or indeed, completing – the wiring. This resulted in a burning type smell emitting from the cab during a particularly frantic session on ‘Track & Field’. Turns out I forgot to earth the transformer properly. So I’m busy trying to source a new one. In the meantime I’m building a cockpit type thingy to house my rather marvellous gt pro racing wheel for the PS3. Updates & piccies to follow!

One of the main reasons I started this machine was my failure to secure the JAMMA PCB of ‘Rolling Thunder’.

One of my all time favourite games & it doesn’t work on xbox mame! Rolling Thunder 2 works fine, but that’d be like watching ‘Wayne’s World 2’ because your ‘Wayne’s World’ DVD was scratched. You wouldn’t. You’d settle for Bill & Ted instead. So off I embark to find the mame equivalent of Excellent Adventure. Bummer.
